The other day I was at the gym doing a Zumba class, and in front of me was a grey haired, older woman who during our warm up was doing well and I was admiring her for being there doing the class. I noticed as the class went on, that the instructor was making the moves more complicating and the arm movements she did were in a pattern that was a challenge to repeat. The instructor just kept on the same arm routine and as a bit of time went on, I had the movements down pat.
What I noticed though was the woman in front of me - I could see that it was very hard for her to get the arm movements and keep her legs moving. I could see that she was trying her best to keep it going, and then she just gave up and moved her legs only. It was in this moment that I realized how much the brain is also exercised when we do a dance class - that when we are using both sides and ends of our bodies that it makes the brain have a work out too!!
We can internally take all sorts of things to help our memory - Essential Fatty Acids - Bacopa - Lion’s Main - Gingko, however we also need to keep our brain active through our body movements. So I would say to you - if you want to improve your memory and keep your brain “young” get out there and join a dance class - have some fun and enjoy feeling young and full of energy.
