Master Herbalist Lisa Taylor ![]() Did you know that essential fatty acids (EFAs) can help your child with focus and attention? Now that school is heading back in, it will be all that more important for your child to focus and have good attention during the school hours. An excellent way to accomplish this is by giving your child sources of EFAs in the morning with their breakfast and also packed in their lunches at school. What are sources of EFAs? Salmon, Herring and Mackerel fish are an excellent source, and for this reason, I recommend that clients give their children the Botanica Omegalicious fish oil. They are delicious, naturally flavoured Tangerine, Coconut Pineapple, Mango Peach and Key Lime and taste more like a dessert than a fish supplement. You can add this oil to your child’s yogurt, put it on their pancakes or just simply serve it to them off a spoon. Other sources are: hemp seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, almonds, broccoli, spinach, olive oil, whole grains and eggs so add these foods to lunches where you can. Our brains are 80% fat, and so it’s important for all of us to be having an EFA supplement daily. Not only that - EFAs have been shown to improve eye health so all the better for your child’s eyesight as they are now focusing on their school work. If you are using the Botanica Omegalicious Fish Oil, for children 1-2 tsp/day, teenagers 1 tbsp/day and adults 2 tbsp/day would be recommended. In Calgary this brand of oils can be found at most health food stores, especially Community Natural Foods, Planet Organic, Blush Lane and Amaranth Whole Foods.
