Master Herbalist Lisa Taylor ![]() Did you know that essential fatty acids (EFAs) can help your child with focus and attention? Now that school is heading back in, it will be all that more important for your child to focus and have good attention during the school hours. An excellent way to accomplish this is by giving your child sources of EFAs in the morning with their breakfast and also packed in their lunches at school. What are sources of EFAs? Salmon, Herring and Mackerel fish are an excellent source, and for this reason, I recommend that clients give their children the Botanica Omegalicious fish oil. They are delicious, naturally flavoured Tangerine, Coconut Pineapple, Mango Peach and Key Lime and taste more like a dessert than a fish supplement. You can add this oil to your child’s yogurt, put it on their pancakes or just simply serve it to them off a spoon. Other sources are: hemp seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, almonds, broccoli, spinach, olive oil, whole grains and eggs so add these foods to lunches where you can. Our brains are 80% fat, and so it’s important for all of us to be having an EFA supplement daily. Not only that - EFAs have been shown to improve eye health so all the better for your child’s eyesight as they are now focusing on their school work. If you are using the Botanica Omegalicious Fish Oil, for children 1-2 tsp/day, teenagers 1 tbsp/day and adults 2 tbsp/day would be recommended. In Calgary this brand of oils can be found at most health food stores, especially Community Natural Foods, Planet Organic, Blush Lane and Amaranth Whole Foods. Did you know that prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death among men? More recently I’ve had male clients for health assessments and part of the conversation is in regards to keeping their prostate healthy. One of the many things I learnt while studying to be come a Master Herbalist was “zinc for the dink”, because zinc has been shown to play an active role in maintaining prostate health. It has been shown that zinc helps prostate cells resist malignant transformation by creating an intracellular environment toxic to cancerous cells. The recommended dosage I use with all men is 50 mg/day which can be taken in supplement form or with your diet. As an example, for each 100grams - cooked oysters has 78.6mg, lean cooked beef has 12.3mg, pumpkin seeds have 10.3mg and cashews have 5.6mg so make sure to eat these foods to get some well needed zinc.
In addition to zinc, there are herbs like Saw Palmetto, which is used to help enlarged prostate. The herb does this by shrinking the inner lining that puts pressure on the tubes that carry the urine. When there is a family history of prostate issues, or if there is already evidence of an enlarged prostate this herbal supplement would be suggested, in fact many doctors are using this supplement with their patients. Lisa T can use the tools of iridology and sclerology to assess the health of the tissue of the prostate and make recommendations according to what will best serve the client. There are times where I look at person’s eyes and I can see heart issues and for some this is a physical issue while for others it is more of an emotional issue. Many times I have looked at a person’s eyes and can see that they are suffering more from a broken heart than they are from a physical heart disease pathology.
Sometimes it’s hard for us to see for our own selves what we need or don’t need, so I encourage you to get specific about the direction you need to improve how you feel about yourself both physically and emotionally. I am able to provide you with that support so you can be confident that the steps that you are taking towards better health will work in your best interest. Today I had a client come into the studio for her second bio energy healing and so I asked her how she felt after her first session. She said “AMAZING!! I’ve felt so great since and I’ve been talking to my friends and clients about how wonderful I feel”. We then proceeded to check in on how she was doing in regards to her major issues when we first met which were right shoulder pain and her stress/anxiety levels. Last week when I first saw her, shoulder pain was at a 6 and stress/anxiety was at a 6. Today when I asked her about her pain she was at 0 and her stress/anxiety was a 2!! Here are some examples of Bio Energy Healing by Michael D'Alton, a renowned Canadian healer.
This is one of MANY examples on how bio energy can quickly heal the body. Physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, and with immediate effects. When a client comes in for a treatment they will feel so different when they leave. So many people come in carrying a lot of clouds/heavy energy/baggage and through the course of the treatment, these heavier energies are lifted. The end result is more energy, better clarity of mind/focus, less pain and so much more.
To find more information and to book with Lisa visit our services page! ![]() One of the most common supplements I use with clients is Kombucha. Kombucha is produced by fermenting black or great tea with a “symbiotic ‘colony’ of bacteria and yeast” (SCOBY). It has been used for over 1,000 years and has recently become popular around the world. You may have noticed drinks in your local grocery store, Costco or health food store. These drinks are excellent, however when I’m working with a client, I use a concentrated form of Kombucha by Botanica. Kombucha tastes very much like apple cider vinegar and will help you with digestive issues, pH balancing, positive bacteria, absorption in the digestive tract, improves bowels, d-tox the liver and is also high in B and C vitamins helping to improve antioxidant levels. The reason I use this supplement with so many clients is because most people in our society have digestive, absorption and bowel issues and so if we start cleaning up this area of the body we start to see the benefits trickle down to having more energy, better sleep, let toxins and overall a better sense of wellbeing. The dosage I use with clients is 2 tsp in 1/4-1/2 cup of water twice a day, and I suggest drinking this combination before the two largest meals of the day. I also recommend using the Kombucha as your vinegar component to your salad dressing, as this will help your stomach to break down the raw foods. Is this a supplement that you would benefit from? Lisa can use the tools of iridology, sclerology and tongue assessment to see how your bacteria levels look, your digestion conditions and bowel toxins to see if this the right supplement for you. Find our more about Lisa's and her services, or book an appointment at the studio. Iridology can show so many things including high cholesterol . Notice in this iris the white ring on the outside. This ring builds up over a person's lifetime and will show up if there is an imbalance of sodium and cholesterol, which is why it’s called the sodium/cholesterol ring.
When I see this ring in someone’s eyes, I will start with their nutrition, cleaning up their saturated fats (coconut oil is fine), eliminating super fried foods/chips, and at the very least, supplementing them with a high quality and high potency fish oil. When this ring is seen, it’s also indicating there is plaque building up in the arteries around the heart, and so must be taken seriously. This is one of many rings that appear in the eye. Stay tuned for information on other rings and what they mean! Lisa Taylor, our Master Herbalist. ![]() When you look at your eyes up close in the mirror, have you ever noticed any markings or colours in your iris? If not, take a moment to do that and see if you have any spots, dark openings or rings. You will be amazed at what you can see in your eye. What does it all mean? Lisa Taylor, our Master Herbalist, can look at the iris and tell you so much about yourself - including your personality type. This is all part of the Natural Health Assessment where Lisa will use an assessment tool called Rayid which provides insight to what kind of a person you are. If you are a FLOWER eye structure - where there are openings in the fibres of your eye - you are very creative, emotional, spontaneous, touchy feely by nature and will need to have a creative outlet to help with stress. If you are a JEWEL eye structure - where there are spots on the fibres in your eyes - you are the polar opposite of a flower. You will be more rigid, list orientated, scientific and more of an A type personality. One thing very important for a jewel type is to exercise - especially when stressed. If you are a STREAM eye structure - where there are no flowers or jewels on the fibres - you will tend to be very intuitive and grounded, someone who doesn't like conflict and who can tend to be a bit of a mediator. The stream eye type also needs exercise to reduce stress. If you are a SHAKER eye structure - where you have both flowers and jewels on the fibres - you are a combination of the flower and jewel eye type. You will tend to go from being creative and open to logical and more closed off. People may say you are almost a "multi personality" which technically you are, however not in a negative way. Shaker's do really well when they are motivating others, which will help them feel less stressed. If you are interested in finding out your personality type along with your Natural Health Assessment, which includes of iridology, sclerology and tongue assessment, contact Lisa directly at 403-619-3518 or book online. |
